How to Audit Your Guest Experience in Under an Hour

You don't need a consultant.
You don't need a year-long strategic planning process. You don't need to overhaul anything.
You need an honest hour and a fresh set of eyes.
That's it. Let's do it.
The one-hour audit framework
Break the hour into four 15-minute chunks. Simple, focused, done by lunch.
Minutes 1 to 15: the approach. Parking, signage, the walk to your entrance. Everything a guest experiences before they even reach a person.
Minutes 16 to 30: the first interaction. Greeters, check-in, that first human touchpoint.
Minutes 31 to 45: the service experience. How clear is everything for someone who's never been here before. Do they know what's happening and why.
Minutes 46 to 60: the follow-up plan. What actually happens after this guest walks out your door.
Four sections. One hour. That's the whole structure.
One key question per section
For the approach, ask: would a total stranger know exactly where to go, with zero help from anyone?
For the first interaction, ask: did anyone make real eye contact, or did people just say words while looking elsewhere?
For the service experience, ask: could a newcomer follow along without feeling lost or confused?
For follow-up, ask: is there a clear next step for a guest who actually wants to connect further?
Four honest questions. That's most of what you need to know.
Do this with your team, not alone
Don't run this audit solo. Grab two or three people and actually walk the building together.
Fresh eyes catch what you've stopped seeing. You've walked past that confusing sign so many times you don't notice it's confusing anymore. Someone else will.
Team audits also build ownership. When your volunteers help find the gaps, they care more about fixing them.
Small, regular beats big and rare
You don't need one massive overhaul a year. You need small, honest check-ins, done often.
An hour, every quarter, will do more for your guest experience than one big project you keep putting off.
Start today. Grab your calendar. Block the hour. Walk the building.
